Roberto De Zerbi has left Marseille amid growing speculation he could replace Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian coach, previously linked with the Manchester United job, had come under pressure following Marseille’s humiliating Champions League exit to Club Brugge.
A subsequent 5–0 thrashing by Paris Saint-Germain left the club three points adrift of the automatic Champions League places in Ligue 1.

“Olympique de Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi, coach of the first team, have announced the end of their collaboration by mutual agreement,” the club said in a statement.
De Zerbi took charge of Marseille in June 2024 after leaving Brighton, where he spent just under two years. He guided the French side to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 in his debut season, securing Champions League qualification.
However, a disappointing second campaign saw Marseille embroiled in crisis following their early European exit. He departs with the club fourth in the table, 12 points behind leaders PSG.
Meanwhile, Tottenham sacked Thomas Frank on Tuesday following a 2–1 defeat to Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a result that left Spurs hovering above the relegation zone.
Tottenham had previously identified De Zerbi as a top managerial target, and his availability has significantly boosted their chances of securing his services.
Sources indicate the Italian was previously reluctant to work under chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Fabio Paratici but is now understood to be more open to the move.
With Spurs seeking a swift appointment after Frank’s dismissal, De Zerbi’s sudden availability places him firmly in the frame to take over in north London.
