….A home-based Eagles declare readiness
Its just two weeks left to the official kick-off of the first ever TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, to be co-hosted by three East African nations of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
CHAN 2024 is the first and only tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to be co-hosted on the continent, making it a history breaking moment for both the football governing body and the host nations.
This year’s CHAN is the eighth edition of the continental tournament preserve for players in local leagues across Africa, scheduled for August 2–30, 2025.
“We are now just two weeks away from writing a new chapter in African football. The TotalEnergies CAF CHAN 2024 is more than a tournament—it’s a powerful statement of African excellence, unity, and belief in local talent. East Africa is ready to welcome the continent,” Veron Mosengo-Omba, CAF general secretary, said.
The final draw has already been conducted, with 19 teams, including defending champions Senegal, now placed in their respective groups.
CAF and the Local Organising Committees are working around the clock to finalise logistics, fine-tune stadiums, and roll out fan engagement campaigns across the host cities.
The ticket sales and other competition marketing initiatives are expected to be unveiled shortly, bringing fans closer to the action.
Just as the host nations are counting down, the home-based Eagles have also declare their readiness to compete at CHAN 2024.
Eric Chelle, head coach of the Super Eagles is currently in camp in Ikenne, with 28 players vying for a spot in the final list.
The Home Eagles will begin their Group D campaign against reigning champions Senegal on Tuesday, August 7, at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar.
They will also face Sudan and Congo in the group stage.
“All of us are like brothers, we know ourselves from the different clubs. It’s normal, meeting ourselves here.
“I’m looking forward to the tournament. I’m prepared, and we need to give our best. You know Nigeria is one of the best countries in Africa. We are preparing very well,” Godwin Obaje, Rangers forward, said.
According to Obaje, the team has bonded well during the training camp and are focused on the task ahead.
