CAN flays Taraba attacks, rejects move to push Nigeria into anarchy
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), in Taraba State on Wednesday, condemned the attacks and killings in the state and other parts of the country, saying attempts to throw the country into anarchy is unacceptable.
State CAN Chairman, Rev. Innocent Solomon stated this in Jalingo during a reception in honour of Rev. Caleb Ahima who was elected the National Vice President of CAN on Tuesday in Abuja.
Solomon appealed to the Commissioner of Police, the commanding officer of the Nigerian Army, 20th mechanise Battalion Serti and all security agencies to bring the killers in Taraba crisis to justice.
While condemning the burning of places of worship and missionary institutions in the attacks in the state, Solomon said attempt to throw the country into anarchy must be stopped by all well meaning citizens.
“No tribe or religion has monopoly of violence and no one tribe is born to rule and others to be slave.
“We admonished those in the helm of affairs to use their powers correctly, righteousness and fairly and ensure that justice which is the fundamental principles of governance is adhered to.
“Justice must be served on those who are executing a genocide in Nigeria against ordinary and law abiding citizens especially in northern Nigeria that is today stinking with blood,” he said.
The CAN Chairman sympathised with the victims of the crisis in the state and congratulate Rev. Samson Ayokunle and Caleb Ahima for their victory at the CAN election.
In his remarks, Rev. Caleb Ahima said Nigeria was passing through difficult times and the church must pray hard and remain united to save Nigeria from her numerous challenges.
Ahima condemn the attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria and urged the government to sit up and tackle the security challenges facing the country especially the Christian community, adding that the church might be forced to resort to safe defense.
“The government that preaches agriculture should protect farmers to go to farm.
“For Nigeria to remain together, there must be justice and equity for all,” he said.
