President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, directed the immediate suspension of the e-ticket system introduced at major airport gateways in the country
Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, announced this on Wednesday, while briefing the State House Journalists, after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council FEC, presided over by the President
Keyamo stated that the cash collection system which has been on for over 50 years had encouraged corruption
He declared that the President ordered the stoppage, while a better method of e-ticket system is worked out
He assured that he will be going back to perfect the system
According to him ” It should not take too long
Will seek private sector support to evolve a better system.
He assured those with the FAAN cards already, that the government can do a hybrid system to allow them use their cards
He also announced that the Ministry is ready to pay commission to any private sector operator, who can carry out the collection system, under the new arrangement
“The President ordered the stoppage because of the challenges of gridlock created by the introduction of the e- ticket system
The President is not happy with the difficulties that travellers are encountering at the Abuja and Lagos airport.
” It is not as if Mr. President is happy with the cash collection, but he is just being compassionate with the travellers”
Keyamo said they are going to engage with some private sector operators with the view to getting back to the President very soon on the issue
It will be recalled that the introduction of the e- ticket had caused untold hardship making travellers to miss their flights
