As part of its continuous drive to achieve safe and quality blood services, the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), South-West Zonal Centre, Ibadan, is collaborating with the Government, faith-based and health institutions in the South-West.
The NBSA’s strategic intent is to deepen cooperation with critical stakeholders in the shared mission to ensure safe, sufficient and accessible blood for all.
To foster collaborations and strengthen partnerships, the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), South-West Zonal Centre, Ibadan, led by the Zonal Director, Oladapo Aworanti, a Medical Doctor, paid courtesy visits to key institutions in the South-West States.
Among the institutions the Agency visited were the Department of State Services (DSS) in Oyo State, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Headquarters, and the Central Medical Diagnostic Centre (CMDC).
During the visits to the Oyo State Command of DSS, Aworanti emphasised the benefits of voluntary blood donation and appealed for DSS support in the wake of recent security breaches at the NBSA facility.
Responding, Abdulrasheed Adelakun, Director DSS in Oyo State, expressed enthusiasm for future collaboration, affirming that DSS officers are committed to humanitarian causes while fulfilling their core security mandate.
He also recalled his past experience as a blood donor and pledged to organise a health talk for DSS personnel to promote blood donation awareness.
A commemorative plaque was presented to NBSA by the DSS as part of their Customary reception for visitors.
During a visit to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Headquarters, the NBSA team was warmly received by Pastor Odutolu, a Pastor who later led a tour of four key health-related facilities: RAPAC (Redeemer’s Aids Initiative for People and Communities), the Health Centre, the Public Health Department, and Redeemer’s Health Village.
Aworanti addressed myths surrounding blood donation and encouraged the Church to integrate blood donation into its humanitarian efforts.
Gbenga Durojaiye, Medical Doctor and Chief Medical Director, reaffirmed the Church’s dedication to public health initiatives and endorsed future collaboration. It was agreed that a sensitisation seminar/training session would be organised ahead of the upcoming RCCG Convention.
Also at the Central Medical Diagnostic Centre (CMDC), Oyo State, Aworanti discussed possible areas of partnership, particularly in quality control for blood screening and staff training.
Aworanti congratulated Idowu Akinbola on his recent appointment as the Centre’s Head.
Akinbola, however, appreciated the gesture and expressed his readiness to collaborate with NBSA to ensure safe and quality blood supply.
He emphasised the importance of acquiring vital equipment and coordinating centralised screening systems as part of the Oyo State Government’s broader goal of repositioning the healthcare sector for improved service delivery.
