There was palpable tension yesterday at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) when the party denied the former governor of the state and the emerged governorship candidate of the party, Abubakar Audu, his certificate of return over awaiting petitions from other aspirants in the Saturday’s gubernatorial primary in the state.
Sources at the party secretariat told newsmen that some party leaders were initially not comfortable with Audu’s candidacy, expressing fear that he may be to ‘big’ for them to control.
The former governor, who stormed the party secretariat with his large crowd of supporters left practically dejected over the refusal of the party to issue him the certificate of return as APC flag bearer in the coming gubernatorial election in Kogi State.
A competent member of the National Working Committee of APC however informed in confidence that Audu was denied certificate of return and asked to come back the following day because Tuesday was actually the last day of grace given to other aspirants who may want to petition APC as regards the outcome of the primaries conducted by governor Nasir El-rufai’s led electoral committee.
