As part of activities marking his first year in Office, the Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has inaugurated a 100,000-litre capacity water supply project at the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) in Akure.
The project, known as the Omi Irorun – O’datiwa Water Supply Scheme, is designed to provide potable water to the teaching hospital community and its surrounding areas, thereby enhancing healthcare delivery and improving sanitation standards.
Speaking at the inauguration held in Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Deputy, Olayide Adelami, said the project would significantly improve access to clean water for patients, healthcare workers and residents of adjoining streets and environs.
“This project will profoundly benefit patients, staff, and the wider community served by the Teaching Hospital. It strengthens our campaign to end open defecation in Ondo state and moves us closer to our avowed goal of ensuring that every citizen enjoys access to safe drinking water, basic sanitation, and hygiene facilities”, the governor said.
Governor Aiyedatiwa disclosed that more than 50 Omi Irorun simple solar-powered boreholes are currently operational across the State, bringing “relief, dignity, and renewed hope to communities that have long yearned for this essential resource.”
He further stated that his Administration is prioritising the rehabilitation of non-functional boreholes, alongside a deliberate programme to convert existing water schemes to solar-powered systems in order to reduce maintenance costs and ensure long-term sustainability.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, while inaugurating the Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road in Oka-Akoko, on Friday, described the project as a milestone in his Administration’s drive to expand infrastructure and boost economic activities across the State.
According to him, the inauguration of the approximately six-kilometre road underscores his Government’s unwavering commitment to delivering infrastructure that directly improves the well-being of citizens.
He stated that the road was carefully designed and constructed with quality materials to withstand heavy traffic, including articulated vehicles, and conforms with global best practices and world-class standards.
The governor noted that road construction and rehabilitation remain top priorities for his Administration, especially in the Akoko axis where demands for intervention have been persistent.
Also in Owo Local Government, Governor Aiyedatiwa inaugurated Iselu–Isuada Road in Owo Local Government Area, describing the project as a symbol of renewed hope and sustained development across the state.
The governor said the rehabilitation of the strategic road went beyond the laying of asphalt and concrete, noting that it represents the restoration of dignity and economic vitality to the people.
Governor Aiyedatiwa explained that for years, deplorable road conditions had imposed hardship on residents and constrained productivity in the area.
He, however, disclosed that since the inauguration of his Administration, over 3.5 kilometres of roads had been executed within the Owo axis alone.
