Chief Femi Coker, the factional President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), says the association is collaborating with two other companies to develop 700,000 hectares of farm plantations across the country.
Coker, in a statement in Lagos on Thursday, said that the project was worth about 2.5 billion dollars.
The statement said that the project was initiated as a private and integrated agro-business partnership with local and foreign investors.
It identified the two major financiers as Econova Nigeria Limited and Green World Path, U.S.
“This is a 2.5-billion-dollar project, initiated as a private sector driven and integrated agro-business in partnership with local and foreign corporate bodies.
“The development of the project has seen many companies showing interest in partnership and Econova Nigeria Limited and Green World Path in the U.S. have been chosen.
“They have shown readiness to work with AFAN as its principal partner and have also promised to attract U.S. business interests.
“This project will also encourage AFAN’s Empowerment of Nigerian Youths”.
The statement further said that farmers’ harvest were being affected by pests due to limited availability of pesticides and herbicides.
To address this challenge, the statement said that the association was exploring possible partnership with Green World Production, manufacturers of organic herbicides and pesticides, soil treatment and nutrient liquids.
