Two passengers were confirmed dead while two others sustained various degrees of injuries and were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
The road, a supply corridor of perishable goods into Maiduguri, the State capital, has been targeted by militants using IEDs against civilians and security forces.
This incident was followed by an April 12 attack on a commercial bus on the same road, which killed eight passengers and injured others.
A security source said that Military clearance operations are needed before the rainy season complicates the detection of IEDs efforts.

“Recent blasts on the Damboa-Maiduguri axis show the problem,’ the source said.
“To advance into areas like Sambisa Forest, troops must clear IEDs from roads”, the source noted.
The source noted militants mark bomb sites with objects like shoes or money to avoid their own traps while misleading others.
