Citibank Nigeria Limited (Citi) joined global celebrations to commemorate 2025 Women’s History, which included an opening bell ringing at the New York Stock Exchange, among other key celebrations, in honour of International Women’s Day. Citi’s global theme for Women’s History Month was Agents of Change- Blazing Trails for All and highlights the importance of fostering a culture where everyone has an opportunity to thrive.
In line with global events, Citi, and Junior Achievement Nigeria (JA Nigeria) extended the reach of Citi’s Women’s History Month celebration to students from select local schools. The event featured an inspiring lineup of speakers, including Ruby Igwe, Country Manager for ALX Nigeria, and Adenike Adeyemi, Executive Director of FATE Foundation, who are proud JA Nigeria alumni. They were joined by Lehlé Baldé-Cameron, Journalist and Founding Editor of BusinessDay Weekender.
Through candid conversations and personal stories, the speakers shared their journeys, challenges, and successes, offering valuable lessons on resilience, leadership, and the importance of championing inclusion. Their diverse perspectives provided students and other attendees with a powerful reminder of the critical role women play in shaping industries, communities, and the future.
Nneka Enwereji, MD/CEO of Citibank Nigeria Limited, commented: “Citi’s theme celebrates the achievements of women and allies who pave the way for progress. It reminds us that when we create space for diverse voices, we build stronger teams, drive innovation, and shape a more equitable future.”
The panel was moderated by Ugonna Achebe, Executive Director of JA Nigeria, who reiterated the importance of confidence, adaptability, and embracing technology. According to Achebe, “Listening to the insights shared by our remarkable panelists, three key themes stood out. First, there is no single path to success. It’s important to maximise the opportunities that are made available. Second, confidence is crucial—qualifications matter, but confidence sets you apart. Finally, embracing technology is essential in today’s world. AI is not here to replace us; it is a tool to help us achieve more.”
Women’s History Month celebrations highlight Citi’s and JA Nigeria’s enduring commitment to driving positive change in the communities it serves. Through initiatives like this, Citi continues to create opportunities for meaningful dialogues that drives progress toward a more equitable future
