The Enugu State Government has approved over one billion naira (N1,505,939,643) for the total renovation and upgrading of the seven District Hospitals in the state.
It also approved the recruitment of 255 health workers for the seven district hospitals, three sub-district hospitals and 41 cottage hospitals in the state.
Chuks Ugwoke, the state commissioner for Information, who spoke to BusinessDay said the recent focus on healthcare delivery by the governor was to ensure access to quality healthcare and smooth running of the free maternal and child healthcare programme in the state.
Ugwoke said that the approval for the recruitment of the health workers was given at the councils meeting chaired by Governor Sullivan Chime.

The commissioner explained in a breakdown that the health workers to be employed will include 20 medical officers, 150 nurses, pharmacists, radiographers, laboratory scientists, security guards and clerical officers among others.
He said that the approval for the renovation of the seven district hospitals was in line with the government’s commitment to provide affordable qualitative healthcare services to the people.
According to Ugwoke, an approval of the sum of over Ninety-Seven Million Naira (N97,684,537.60) was made for the renovation and other repair works in state liaison office complex, Abuja and State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) office, Enugu.
