As parts of efforts to position itself for more significant performance this year, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society (CMS) Limited, Lagos, said it would re-strategise while continuing to build on a strong foundation, sound corporate governance and excellence.
The NNPC CMS, in a move to reward its members for their contributions to the success it recorded in 2012, declared the sum of N156, 317,832 as dividend payable to members of the society.
“From time to time, there is constant need to re-strategise in order to meet the dynamics of economic realities. In view of this, the rudiments of Cooperative Societies’ activities all over the world as enshrined in the International Cooperative Alliance Charter which ensures that our Society is built on a strong and enduring foundation, sound corporate governance, honesty, excellence and unique ability have helped us to overcome obstacles and convert challenges to opportunities,” said Ojeyemi Adeleke, President, NNPC CMS Ltd.
Adeleke, while presenting the 2012 annual reports and accounts of the society at the Annual General Meeting last week, said he was very optimistic that the Society has a great future, “but as members, we have to do it together. We shall continue to pursue opportunities in our overall interest.”
Highlighting the achievements of the Society, he said a new office and consumer shop was opened in Port-Harcourt, the design, layout and setting of their land in Kaduna was done, loans and withdrawals granted to members increased, 2011 dividends were paid; consumer shop was acquired in Warri, among others.
Adeleke said they are committed to ensuring the completion of ongoing projects such as the construction of an office complex in Lagos comprising of a new Secretariat, banking hall, consumer shop and s new parking lot; partnership with Aqua Production Technology, Israel for the Agriculture Scheme on import replacement and export; partnership with Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority and Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority for the acquisition of hectares of land and facilities for agriculture purpose and bus mass transit scheme.
