The imperative of a robust, transparent and reliable financial sector to unlocking the enormous potential of the Nigerian economy presents a huge opportunity and challenge for professional accountants in the country, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Nigeria has said.
Toyin Ademola, country head for ACCA Nigeria, in a statement said businesses moving to work more closely in Nigeria will benefit from the skills of the accountants trained by national bodies and from members of ACCA, the global body for professional accountants.
“Members of ACCA are all trained to the same high global level. They take exams of the same tough standards, based on International Financial Reporting Standards which means they are in demand from multinational businesses looking for employees with qualifications recognised around the world,” she said.
It is an issue which members of ACCA Nigeria’s National Advisory Committee (NAC) discussed at its recent meeting, she said.
According to the statement, ACCA Nigeria will be working with NAC to ensure that employers, businesses, students and parents are aware of the scope of work that ACCA members can undertake. “We will be visiting universities and employers to explain the issue and will also be speaking to government and regulators to ensure there is clarity over the contribution that ACCA members make to the Nigerian business community.
