Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has intensified political consultations with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State as preparations gather momentum for the State’s 2026 Governorship election.
Oyetola, who is also regarded as the leader of the APC in the State and a former governor, hosted a series of strategic meetings with party elders and stakeholders over the weekend at his country home in Iragbiji, located in Boripe Local Government Area.
The consultations brought together key figures within the party, including serving and former members of the National Assembly, former lawmakers of the Osun State House of Assembly, party elders, support groups, and other political stakeholders from across the state.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the minister’s Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, the meetings formed part of a broader strategy to strengthen party unity and mobilise grassroots support ahead of the August 15, 2026 Governorship election.
Participants at the engagements reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to the party and pledged to work collectively to return the APC to power in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Oyetola urged party leaders to close ranks and intensify mobilisation across communities and local government areas.
“The forthcoming election will be decisive and critical for the future of our party and the state,” he said. “This is the time for unity, loyalty and sustained engagement with the people at the grassroots.”
Oyetola also expressed confidence in the APC’s Governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, describing him as a candidate with widespread support across the State.
According to the minister, Oyebamiji possesses the leadership qualities required to deliver purposeful governance and steer Osun toward greater accountability, growth and development.
He further reminded party leaders that preparations for the 2026 governorship election should align with broader political strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oyetola emphasised that unity among party stakeholders remains the APC’s strongest asset and urged members to sustain efforts that promote peace, cooperation and stability within their respective communities.
He also commended party elders and loyal members for their continued dedication to the APC, noting that consistent grassroots mobilisation and collective responsibility would be crucial for electoral success.
Beyond the political consultations, the weekend engagements in Iragbiji also featured major social and religious gatherings that drew large crowds of supporters and dignitaries.
On Friday, Oyetola hosted family members, associates, supporters and party faithful at a special prayer session marking the 15th anniversary of the passing of his mother, Alhaja Wulemot Arike Oyetola.
The remembrance event attracted dignitaries and well-wishers from within and outside Osun State.

Activities continued on Sunday with the Ileri Oluwa Annual Ramadan Lecture, also hosted by the minister.
The event brought together religious leaders, community figures, political associates and residents from various parts of Osun State and beyond.
Political observers say the series of engagements reflects growing mobilisation within the APC as parties begin positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle in the state.
The 2026 governorship election in Osun is expected to attract significant political attention, particularly as major parties prepare to test their grassroots strength in what analysts believe could be a highly competitive contest.
