Bernard Doro, the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has flagged off the distribution of food and nutrition assistance to vulnerable persons in Plateau State as part of efforts to cushion the impact of food insecurity and economic hardship.
The ceremony held on Monday in Jos marked the official launch of the intervention aimed at supporting households severely affected by climate disruptions, insecurity and displacement across the state.
Speaking during the event, Doro said the programme was both a national responsibility and a personal commitment because Plateau remains his home state.

“Plateau State is my home State. It is the land where I was raised, the communities whose resilience shaped my values, and the people whose strength continues to inspire my commitment to public service,” he said.
The minister added that the Federal Government initiated the intervention to cushion the immediate impact of food insecurity and help vulnerable households rebuild their livelihoods.
“This distribution of food and nutrition assistance represents a decisive step by the Federal Government of Nigeria to cushion the immediate impact of food insecurity, stabilize vulnerable households, and support communities working hard to rebuild their livelihoods,” he stated.
Doro noted that women, children, the elderly and persons living with disabilities remain the most affected by economic shocks and food shortages in many communities.
He explained that the intervention forms part of a broader reform programme of the ministry under the One Humanitarian–One Poverty Response System aimed at linking humanitarian relief to long-term poverty reduction strategies.
According to him, the initiative will ensure that beneficiaries of emergency support are connected to government programmes such as conditional cash transfers, skills development, livelihood restoration and agricultural productivity support.
The minister also disclosed that the Federal Government is expanding the National Social Register to properly identify vulnerable households and integrate them into social protection programmes designed to improve their economic stability.
