The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede Owerri has secured approval and accreditation for the teaching of Chinese Language in the institution.
This is even as the 48-year-old institution has created a veritable opportunity for both businessmen and women, graduates and undergraduates who are desirous of acquiring certifications in the use of the Chinese Language.
Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe, rector of the institution, said this at the 48th matriculation ceremony (2025/2026 academic year) of the school during which over 13,000 fresh students were admitted into various disciplines.
Igbokwe who is the 9th substantive Rector of the school also stated that the institution had expanded its infrastructure with the addition of a new campus in Abaezi, Ohaji/Egbema council area of Imo State.
With its commitment to providing quality education and training, she further disclosed that the institution would continue to play a vital role in the nation’s human resources.
The Rector said that with the eyes of successive management, the institution which began with just a few programmes of the National Diploma level has since grown and now offers a wide range of academic programmes including the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses across its eight schools.
“In addition to these, the institution has a very robust and well packaged part time programme both in the evening and at weekends and this programme helps to provide good opportunities for our students, parents and relatives whose work/business may not allow them to participate in the regular programme of our Institutions”, she said.
Igbokwe listed recent achievements in the school to include: rehabilitation and recovery of hostels to ease students difficulties with accommodation, rehabilitation of ICT and JAMB centre to reaffirm commitment to being a leading ICT driven institution, renovation of 1000 capacity Hall for comfort during events, rehabilitation of the tissue paper factory and bottle water factory, revitalizing institutional assets through sector partnerships, revitalizing institutional assets through private sector partnerships as well as securing NBTE approval for the Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in pharmaceutical technology among others.
She therefore advised the matriculating students to pursue academic excellence so as to become Ambassadors of the school upon, graduation.
“We have provided the necessary conditions for you to excel including a conducive learning atmosphere, state of the art facilities, well trained staff and a competent management committed to making the institution better,” she stated.
