…As command rescues kidnap victims
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly killing a 52-year-old man following an accusation that the deceased had shot him in a dream while he was asleep the previous night.
In a statement by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, deputy superintendent of Police and Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, he stated that
one Badmus Yunisa ‘m’ of Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri, reported that Lateef Suleiman ‘m’, aged 43 years, attacked his elder brother, Mustapha Amidu ‘m’, aged 52 years, following an accusation that the deceased had shot him in a dream while he was asleep the previous night.
“Acting on this claim, the suspect allegedly approached the deceased where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, struck him on the head, and fled the scene immediately.
“The victim was promptly rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital, Sepeteri, for medical attention, where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty.
Ayanlade said upon receipt of the report, a team of Police Operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ago-Amodu Division, visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital as part of preliminary investigative procedures.
He stated that the suspect has since been arrested, has confessed to the crime, and is currently cooperating with investigators.
Femi Haruna, commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The Command assures the public that justice would be pursued diligently and in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped victim in Igbeti area of the state and also a combined security team comprising Police operatives, members of the Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst, and other local security stakeholders rescued four passengers abducted in the early hours of March 5, 2026 along the Igbeti–Kishi Road.
The abduction of one Alhaji Gede Yusuf ‘m’, aged 30 years, of Old Oyo National Park, Dauda Village via Igbeti, was reported at the Igbeti Divisional Police Headquarters, prompting an immediate and coordinated response by security operatives.
Ayanlade said following the report, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and non-state actors, launched sustained and intelligence-driven bush-combing operations across identified flashpoints.
“Owing to the intense pressure mounted by the joint team, the kidnappers abandoned the victim, who was subsequently rescued unhurt. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention and has since been discharged in stable condition,” he said.
Femi Haruna, commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command however has commended the gallantry of the Police operatives and the sustained collaboration of other partner agencies and community stakeholders whose collective efforts ensured the safe rescue of the victim.
The CP has further directed the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to debrief the victim thoroughly as investigations continue, with a firm mandate to ensure that all those responsible for the crime are tracked, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Also, the four victims kidnapped on Igbeti-Kishi road were successfully rescued unhurt following a swift and coordinated security response by a team of combined security team.
Ayanlade said preliminary reports revealed that armed hoodlums emerged from a nearby bush and blocked the road, intercepting a commercial bus travelling from Igbeti towards Kishi.
During the incident, four passengers were forcefully taken into the surrounding bush by the assailants.
Femi Haruna, commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command immediately the report was received, promptly directed the Divisional Police Officers of Igbeti and Kishi Divisions, in conjunction with relevant tactical teams, to mobilise all necessary operational resources to ensure the victims were rescued unhurt.
Acting on this directive, a combined security team comprising Police operatives, members of the Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst, and other local security stakeholders swiftly moved to the area and commenced intensive combing of the surrounding forests.
The sustained bush combing operation, which lasted for several hours, mounted significant pressure on the criminals, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee the scene.
Consequently, the four victims were successfully rescued unhurt, have regained their freedom, and have since been reunited with their families.
The Commissioner of Police commended the bravery, professionalism, and swift response of the combined security team, emphasising that synergy and cooperation among security agencies remain vital to the protection of lives and property across the state.
The Command also expresses its appreciation to the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Seyi Makinde for the prompt response and resources mobilised in support of security operations across the state.
Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police appreciates the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, PSC, for his strategic leadership and direction to Commands nationwide in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality.
Ayaade however, said intensive bush combing and intelligence-driven operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.
The Oyo State Police Command urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible and timely information that will aid ongoing security efforts.
