…announces commencement of international flights
Akwa Ibom has concluded plans to take delivery of two new Airbus aircraft within the year to further strengthen Ibom Air’s fleet.
Ibom Air wholly owned airline by Akwa Ibom State began flight operations in 2019 and already has nine fleet of aircraft, operating domestic and Affican regional flights.
Governor Umo Eno, who made this known in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital, stated that several upgrade projects were ongoing at the Victor Attah International Airport ahead of the commencement of international flights in April, 2026.
Governor Eno also announced that the State Geriatric Centre, also known as the ARISE Elderly Citizens Centre, would be inaugurated by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Saturday.

The governor explained that the inauguration of the Centre, located on the ARISE Medical Corridor along the Uyo–Ikot Ekpene Road, would form part of activities marking the First Lady’s first official visit to the State, adding that the visit would also feature the grand finale of the ongoing women sensitisation and mobilisation tour.
Governor Eno noted that the facility, which includes a health centre and relaxation areas, is designed to cater for senior citizens, particularly those aged 65 years and above.
He commended the women of the State for their active participation in the sensitisation and economic empowerment programme and conveyed the warm felicitations of the First Lady to them.
He disclosed that the State Government is constructing a brand new jetty in Oron as part of efforts to restore the city’s commercial vitality.
He further revealed that strategic projects are ongoing across the three Senatorial Districts, with preliminary works already commencing at Ikot Ekpene International Market, while full construction would begin soon.
