Champion Breweries Plc has completed the acquisition of the Bullet brand portfolio from Sun Mark, giving the Nigerian brewer a foothold in 14 African markets and accelerating its push beyond beer into faster-growing beverage categories.
The transaction, first announced in August 2025, transfers ownership of Bullet’s trademarks, formulations, and commercial rights through an asset carve-out.
The brands will sit in a newly incorporated Netherlands entity majority-owned by Champion Breweries Plc, with Vinar N.V., the majority shareholder of Sun Mark, retaining a minority stake.

For the Uyo-based brewer, known for Champion Lager and Champ Malta, the deal marks a shift from a largely regional brewing business to a broader consumer drinks platform with continental reach.
Bullet products are already distributed across 14 African markets. In Nigeria, Bullet Black is positioned as a leading ready-to-drink alcoholic beverage, while Bullet Blue has built a presence in the energy drink segment in several countries.

By acquiring an established portfolio with distribution and brand recognition, Champion gains immediate scale in categories that have outpaced traditional beer growth in parts of Africa.
The acquisition also widens the company’s foreign-currency exposure at a time when Nigerian manufacturers are seeking insulation from exchange-rate volatility. Sales across multiple markets are expected to support foreign exchange earnings and diversify revenue streams.
Imo-Abasi Jacob, the company’s chair, said the completion of the transaction, alongside recent equity capital raises, marked a turning point for the company.
“The support from shareholders and new investors reflects confidence in our long-term strategy to build a diversified beverage platform with pan-African scale,” he said, adding that management’s focus will shift to integration and disciplined execution.

Champion funded the acquisition with proceeds from its recent N16 billion rights issue and public offer, moves that strengthened its balance sheet and expanded its investor base. Nigerian consumer goods firms have increasingly tapped equity markets to reposition for growth and manage higher operating costs.
The structure of the deal allows Champion to integrate the Bullet portfolio without significant upfront manufacturing capital expenditure. While production will initially rely on existing arrangements, the company signaled plans to explore Nigerian production capacity in the future, potentially positioning the country as an export hub for regional markets.
Founded more than five decades ago, Champion Breweries is part of the enJOYcorp Group, a consumer brands platform focused on scaling African products into regional and global markets.
