Suspected kidnappers have abducted a traditional ruler, Francis Igwe, in Ebonyi State, throwing the Ndufu-Alike Community in Ikwo Local Government Area into anxiety.
The monarch, His Royal Highness Ezeogo Francis Igwe, was reportedly whisked away on Sunday morning along the Nwakpu axis of Ikwo LGA while on his way to church.
The abducted royal father is the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike and father of the immediate past Deputy Governor of the State, Eric Kelechi Igwe.
He is an elder in the Assemblies of God.
BusinessDay reports that the incident has drawn condemnation from Governor Francis Nwifuru who described the abduction as unfortunate and unacceptable.
In a statement issued by Monday Uzor, Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, the governor assured that the State Government has activated security and intelligence mechanisms to ensure the monarch’s safe rescue.
He directed all security agencies in the State to collaborate effectively to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Governor Nwifuru called on residents, particularly those in Ikwo and neighbouring communities, to remain calm but vigilant and provide useful information to security agencies to aid ongoing investigations.
He reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that Ebonyi State would not be a haven for criminal elements.
