Abubakar Audi, Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has announced that the Corps generated N4.47 billion in revenue, foiled 48 planned school kidnapping attempts and destroyed 283 illegal refineries within five years of intensified security operations across the country.
Audi disclosed this in Abuja during activities marking World Civil Defence Day, presenting what he described as a comprehensive scorecard of the Corps’ operational, anti-vandalism and institutional reforms from March 2021 to date.
He said the period also saw the arrest of 4,677 suspected economic saboteurs, over 2,000 prosecutions and hundreds of convictions.

The NSCDC boss said the prevention of 48 school abduction attempts came at a time when educational institutions across the country were under intense threat from bandits and criminal elements.
He explained that school protection became a major operational focus, with the deployment of a female special squad established and trained by the Nigerian Army to secure vulnerable schools nationwide.
“After deployment to provide security for our schools, they were able to thwart over 48 attempts of school kidnapping nationwide,” Audi stated.
According to him, the Corps strengthened intelligence gathering, enhanced rapid response strategies and deployed specialised units to high-risk communities to foil abduction plots before execution.
“Protecting our children and securing educational institutions became a top operational priority under my watch,” he added.
Highlighting achievements from March 2021 to date, Audi described the crackdown on oil theft and vandalism as a hallmark of his administration.
Within the five-year period, the Corps arrested 4,677 suspected economic saboteurs, secured 2,039 prosecutions and recorded 638 convictions. In addition, 283 illegal refineries were destroyed across the country.
“In the past five years, I have discharged the duties of my office intelligently and responsibly. Statistics from March 2021 to date show that we arrested 4,677 suspected economic saboteurs, carried out 2,039 prosecutions and secured 638 convictions,” he said.
He noted that the anti-vandalism operations significantly disrupted criminal networks sabotaging critical national infrastructure and draining government revenue.
Audi observed that Nigeria’s evolving security landscape, marked by asymmetric threats, has expanded the Corps’ responsibilities beyond infrastructure protection to include humanitarian crisis management.
He said the NSCDC has worked closely with sister security agencies to provide critical support to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by insurgency and communal conflicts.
To strengthen operational capacity, he prioritised aggressive training in surveillance, intelligence gathering and arms handling.
Under his leadership, he said, the Corps established a Command and Staff College in Jos, Plateau State, and a College of Arms Squad and Support Services in Nasarawa State.
” A standardised curriculum was also introduced across training schools to formalise career progression and professional development”, he added.
On revenue generation, Audi disclosed that the Corps generated N4,476,237,986 within the review period, all of which was remitted directly into the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF).
“The amount generated and paid directly into the Consolidated Revenue Fund under the period under review is N4,476,237,986,” he said.
He added that 52 complaints were handled within the period, with N3.3 million recovered for complainants, adding that three companies were upgraded from Category B to A, while none was downgraded.
The CG also announced reform of the Private Guard Companies (PGC) sector.
According to him, 376 new firms were registered, 893 are awaiting licences, and 3,869 licences were renewed.
He noted that a total of 443 companies were sealed for failing to meet operational standards, while 241 were later reopened after compliance.
“Additionally, 467 stakeholder meetings were held nationwide, and 15,157 private guards were trained within the five-year period”, he added.
