The Football Association (FA) has cleared Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe of disciplinary charges following an investigation into controversial comments he made in an interview, in which he claimed the United Kingdom had been “colonised by immigrants.”
While the FA examined whether the remarks brought the game into disrepute, it has decided that no further action is necessary.

Ratcliffe, however, received a formal reminder of his responsibilities as a participant in English football when speaking to the media.
The comments drew widespread condemnation, including from Keir Starmer and Manchester United’s leading supporter groups. Ratcliffe issued a qualified apology, while the club released a statement highlighting its ongoing inclusivity initiatives.
Speaking at a pre-match news conference on Friday, Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick reaffirmed the club’s commitment to diversity and respect.
“I’m proud of what the club stands for and has done for so long. Equality, diversity and respect for each other are things we look to carry through every day. I am fully aware of the responsibility, and we try to carry that out every day,” Carrick said.
The FA’s decision closes the case against Ratcliffe, but the incident has reignited discussions on accountability, inclusivity, and the responsibilities of high-profile figures in English football.
