The Adamawa State Government has secured a significant legal victory, successfully overturning a judgment that would have compelled it to pay $35,618,054.61 to Ned Nwoko.
The dispute originated at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, where the claimant had instituted proceedings against the State Government for the recovery of the said sum.

In a default judgment, the court granted the relief sought by the plaintiff and subsequently issued an Order Nisi in garnishee proceedings. The order directed banks across Nigeria to attach funds belonging to the Adamawa State Government until the full judgment debt was satisfied.
Upon becoming aware of the ruling, the State Government swiftly filed appeals at the Court of Appeal, challenging both the garnishee order and the lower court’s decision refusing a stay of execution.

On December 2, 2025, the appellate court heard arguments in three related appeals and reserved judgment. In its decision delivered on February 10, 2026, the Court of Appeal allowed all three appeals in favour of the Adamawa State Government. The court also issued a consequential order remitting the case to the FCT High Court for retrial.
The appellate ruling effectively nullifies the enforcement of the earlier judgment and relieves the State of the immediate obligation to pay the $35.6 million judgment sum or its naira equivalent. The matter will now return to the FCT High Court for fresh proceedings.
