The Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure Alumni Association has marked its 73rd Founders’ Day celebration, which also coincides with the transition of leadership at the Global Executive Council of the school’s alumni association.
The celebration had a series of well-attended activities, including an anniversary lecture, thank-you visits by the outgoing Global Executive Council, Annual General Meeting (AGM), awards ceremony and a thanksgiving service, reaffirming its commitment to legacy, unity and development of its alma mater.
The week-long celebration, held between 26th January and 1st February 2026 at the school premises, brought together old students across generations, school management, community leaders, dignitaries and stakeholders in education.
The anniversary lecture titled; “Oyemekun Grammar School Akure: The Legacy Continues. They Were Here, We Were Here, You Are Here Now, We Can Make It Better Than Ever,” was delivered by an alumnus of the school, and a Professor at the Department Animal Health and Production, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Femi Adu, who spoke on the responsibility of alumni to preserve and advance its values.
Adu charged old students to see themselves not merely as beneficiaries of the school’s history but as custodians of its future.
Niyi Ijogun, the outgone Global President, who also led the members of the Global Executive Council of the association on a Thank-You visits to the palace of Deji and paramount ruler of Akure kingdom, Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, expressed gratitude to members for their unity and sacrifices.
He added that the alumni association remains committed to supporting the school through mentorship, infrastructural development, academic support and sustained alumni engagement.
Ijogun called on all members of the alumni association to remain united in service and be committed to excellence.
