Super Falcons forward Joy Omewa marked her Nottingham Forest Women debut with a goal, but it was not enough to prevent the Garibaldi Reds from suffering a heavy 5–1 home defeat to Birmingham City Women in Sunday’s Women’s Super League (WSL) 2 clash.
The Nigerian attacker, who recently joined Forest from Danish side Fortuna Hjørring, wasted no time announcing her arrival in English football, producing a composed first-half finish that briefly restored hope for the hosts.

Forest had fallen behind in the 22nd minute following an unfortunate own goal by Georgia Brougham. However, Omewa drew the home side level just before the break after latching onto a long ball from Chloe Mustaki that deflected kindly into her path.
Showing composure beyond her years, the forward sidestepped her marker and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 1–1 at half-time.
Despite Omewa’s encouraging debut, the second half proved difficult for Forest as Birmingham City took full control of the contest. Wilma Leidhammar restored the visitors’ lead just two minutes after the restart, with sustained pressure eventually resulting in a convincing victory for the away side.
While the 5–1 scoreline was a setback for sixth-placed Forest, Omewa’s performance provided a major silver lining.
The Nigerian international, who scored over 50 goals during her time in Denmark, looks set to be a focal point of the Reds’ attack as they push for a strong finish in their maiden second-tier campaign.
