The Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro has commissioned its flagship community project, the renovation and equipping of wards C1 and C2 at the General Hospital Odan, Lagos, valued at over N150 million, marking a significant boost to public healthcare delivery in the state.
The commissioning ceremony, held within the hospital premises, attracted top Rotary dignitaries, senior government officials, medical professionals and community leaders.
The project ranks among the most impactful healthcare interventions executed by the club in recent years.
The intervention, according to a statement, involved a comprehensive upgrade of hospital facilities, including the replacement of old windows in wards F1 and F2 with durable aluminium frames, as well as fresh exterior painting to enhance safety, comfort and the overall appearance of the hospital environment.
In addition to refurbishment and equipping of the wards, the Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro donated critical medical and support equipment such as wheelchairs and crutches.
The project also delivered 11,000-litre capacity water tanks, a tank stand and a water treatment facility to ensure reliable access to clean water for patients and healthcare workers and to strengthen hospital operations.
Speaking at the event, the immediate past president of the club, IPP Gbolahan Adeyinka, said the project was the outcome of sustained commitment and continuity across successive administrations.
“The project started three years ago, during the year of Past President Kemi Folorunsho. She got the rhythm going with the necessary approvals and documentation”.
Representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Abimbola Mabogunje, praised the club for its humanitarian gesture, describing the intervention as a valuable contribution to healthcare delivery in Lagos State.
The Rotary International District 9112 Governor, Lanre Adedoyin, described the project as a model Rotary intervention that aligns with several of the organisation’s areas of focus.
“This is a project that addresses several of the seven areas of focus in Rotary. When projects are executed, they must be impactful, sustainable and relevant to the needs of the community, and the project we are commissioning today clearly meets all these criteria,” Adedoyin stated.
