Burkina Faso secured second place in Group E at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco with a 2–0 victory over Sudan in Casablanca on Wednesday.
Goals from Lassina Traoré and Arsène Kouassi sealed a controlled performance, and their opponents squandered a penalty.
The win saw the Stallions finish the group stage with six points, three behind group winners Algeria.

Despite the defeat, Sudan also progressed to the Round of 16, having already done enough from their earlier results.
Burkina Faso set the tone early and were rewarded for their positive approach. In the 16th minute, Traoré rose highest from a corner to head firmly past the Sudanese goalkeeper, giving his side a deserved lead.
Sudan were handed a golden opportunity to respond when they were awarded a penalty after Hervé Koffi was adjudged to have committed a foul inside the area. However, Al Gozoli Nooh dragged his effort narrowly wide, a miss that visibly deflated the Falcons of Jediane.
The Burkinabè completed the group with six points from three matches, while Algeria advanced with a perfect record. Sudan also move on to the knockout phase as one of the four best third-placed sides.
Burkina Faso must now wait for the conclusion of Group F later on Wednesday to learn their Round of 16 opponents, which could be defending champions Ivory Coast, Cameroon or Mozambique.
