D’Tigress defeated Mali 78–64 in a fiercely contested final on Sunday night at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The win not only extended their remarkable unbeaten run in the competition to 29 games since 2015 but also cemented their place as queens of African basketball.
“Your superb performance throughout the competition has made Nigeria proud. Like the Super Falcons, you have inspired our young girls. You embodied the power of unity, the rewards of hard work, and the spirit of true champions,” President Tinubu said.
He commended Head Coach Rena Wakama and her technical team for their exemplary leadership, as well as the Nigeria Basketball Federation for their consistent support.
“The Federal Government and Nigerians remain grateful for your sacrifices and outstanding performances. We celebrate your achievement and assure you of our continued support as you prepare for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers next March,” Tinubu added.
The president also expressed his eagerness to receive the victorious team and the trophy in Abuja.
With this latest triumph, D’Tigress have now won the AfroBasket title in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025, underlining a decade of dominance and unmatched consistency on the African continent.
