Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has expressed interest in leaving the club this summer, with Premier League champions Liverpool reportedly targeting the 25-year-old.
Isak was left out of Newcastle’s 4-0 pre-season defeat to Celtic last week due to “speculation” surrounding his future and has now been excluded from the club’s pre-season tour of Singapore, officially due to a thigh injury.
However, sources close to the player suggest the move is tied to his desire to explore new opportunities.
Despite recently completing the €90m signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool remain interested in securing Isak’s services as they continue to reshape their attacking line following the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and plans to offload Darwin Nunez.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe had earlier insisted Isak would “absolutely” travel with the squad to Asia, and publicly maintained confidence that the Swedish forward would remain at St. James’ Park.
“Alex is happy at Newcastle. He loves the players and the staff, and I’ve never had any issue with him,” Howe stated after the Celtic match.
Isak enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 season, scoring 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.
Newcastle, who rejected a £70m bid for Ekitike earlier in the summer, continue to assert that Isak is not for sale. However, growing interest and the player’s openness to a move may force a change in stance.
