Nigeria’s Super Falcons booked their place in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a thrilling 2-1 victory over defending champions South Africa in a high-stakes semi-final clash in Casablanca on Tuesday.
The nine-time African champions struck first just before halftime, with Rasheedat Ajibade converting a 45th-minute penalty to give Nigeria a deserved lead going into the break.
South Africa’s Banyana Banyana fought back in the second half and equalised in the 60th minute through a penalty from Linda Motlhalo, setting the stage for a tense finale.
But it was Michelle Alozie’s stunning 93rd-minute strike that proved decisive, sealing a dramatic 2-1 win for the Super Falcons and reigniting their quest for a record-extending 10th continental title.
The victory served as sweet revenge for Nigeria, who suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa during the group stage of the 2022 WAFCON.
With this win, the Super Falcons not only avenged that loss but also took a massive step closer to achieving their “Mission X”, winning a 10th WAFCON trophy.
Nigeria will now prepare for the final showdown, with confidence soaring after overcoming one of its fiercest rivals in African women’s football.
