…Pledges improved customer service, infrastructure protection
The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has convened a Customer Stakeholder Engagement Forum in Yola, Adamawa State.
The company said that the forum was in line with its bid to strengthen customer relations and improve service delivery.
The event brought together a wide spectrum of participants, including traditional rulers, representatives of security agencies, industry leaders, civil society organisations, and the media.
Delivering the keynote address, YEDC’s Managing Director and CEO, Abduraman Isa, emphasized the vital role of stakeholder collaboration in enhancing electricity distribution across the region.
He disclosed that over 100 cases of electricity vandalism had been successfully prosecuted over the past year and urged citizens to report suspicious activities that could compromise power infrastructure.
To promote transparency and reduce estimated billing, Isa also announced that the company would soon roll out another batch of free prepaid meters to already-mapped customers.
Speaking on operational challenges, Baba Tunde Ayola, YEDC’s Chief Commercial Officer, disclosed that acts of vandalism, including the destruction of four transmission towers along the Gombe–Damaturu line last year, had caused major service disruptions.
He reassured customers of the company’s commitment to improving service delivery and encouraged the use of official platforms for lodging complaints.
Earlier in their separate remarks, the representatives of the traditional rulers Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, the Lamido of Adamawa who was represented by Zubairu Adamu Mustapha, the District Head of Yola and Kondi Nuguraya represented by Jafet Gajere, urged electricity users to refrain from bypassing or tampering with meters.
They warned that such actions undermine the stability of electricity supply and called for continued collaboration between communities and service providers.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of cultural performances, an educational drama skit, and an interactive session, allowing stakeholders to directly engage with YEDC’s leadership on key issues affecting electricity supply and service standards.
