Xi Jinping, President of China, has extended his condolences to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian people following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a message sent on Wednesday, Xi expressed, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, deep sorrow over Buhari’s passing, and conveyed heartfelt sympathy to Buhari’s family and the Nigerian nation.

Xi described Buhari as a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s political and developmental journey, noting that the late leader worked tirelessly to chart a path of progress tailored to Nigeria’s unique national conditions.
He praised Buhari’s dedication to national unity and development, adding that his leadership earned him significant respect on the global stage.
Highlighting Buhari’s role in international diplomacy, Xi recalled the late president’s consistent commitment to strengthening ties between Nigeria and China.

“He steadfastly upheld the friendship with China and actively promoted Nigeria-China relations and China-Africa cooperation,” Xi said, adding that Buhari’s death is not only a great loss to Nigerians but also to the Chinese people who considered him a true friend.
Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening its relationship with Nigeria and emphasised Beijing’s readiness to work with the Nigerian government to advance the bilateral partnership.
