The 2025 World Product Day is to deepen conversation on local content, just as it also aims to amplify product innovation, African talent, and the global relevance of locally built solutions in product design, organisers say.
Chiebuka Obumselu, fund operations lead, Innovate Africa Fund, said Africa needs stronger products to solve local problems at scale, and that it will help builders on the continent master the art.
“Africa doesn’t just need more startups. We need stronger products that actually solve real, local problems at scale. Product is the silent engine of successful companies. This event helps African builders master that engine.
“By focusing on practical product education, this event helps ensure that innovation in Africa isn’t just hype — it’s sustainable and grounded in real user needs,” Obumselu said during a virtual press conference.
According to her, World Product Day Lagos will address critical issues that speak directly to how developers can build for Africa. She disclosed that the event scheduled for Wednesday May 21, 2025 in Lagos will showcase Africa’s leading and emerging product minds.
“World Product Day Lagos is not a celebration of funding — it’s a celebration of focus, function, and follow-through. If Africa is the future, the product is the infrastructure. And we’re building that here,” she said.
According to Obumselu, Africa’s tech sector is maturing rapidly; however, there are gaps in product execution, which the World Product Day Lagos will seek to address. “World Product Day Lagos was born from a simple but important insight: Ideas aren’t enough. It’s how you build that matters.
“While other events celebrate funding rounds and visibility, this one is about craft—what it takes to build better, more inclusive, and scalable products on the continent,” Obumselu said.
