Toyin Adegbite-Moore is the Executive Director, West Africa, African Venture Philanthropy Alliance (AVPA).
AVPA is a Pan-African network for social investors who are interested in collaborating to increase the flow of capital into social investments across Africa and ensure that capital (financial, human and/or intellectual) is deployed as effectively and innovatively as possible for maximum social impact.
Social investment methodologies have proven to be powerful ways to create sustainable and scalable social and environmental impact by enabling diverse social investors to collaborate for greater impact towards achievement of the SDGs. Social investors all seek social returns with varying expectations of financial returns.
AVPA views venture philanthropy/social investment (VP/SI) as a continuum that encompasses everything from philanthropy to impact investing, CSR and sustainable investments by private businesses. They call this the “The Continuum of Capital”.
On their deal share, The AVPA Deal Share Platform for Africa is a subscription-based community where, as a social investor you can share information about your investees and grantees, flag resources those organisations need to grow, and invite others to partner, support or co-invest alongside you.
AVPA supports the work done in Africa through harnessing the potential of women and girls in Africa by enhancing positive social impact through Gender focused investments.
Prior to joining AVPA, Oluwatoyin headed Sheafam & Tam Limited, a consultancy firm specialising in business process management, strategic and change management for both non and for-profit organisations in the US and Nigeria.

As the Executive Director, West Africa, African Venture Philanthropy Alliance (AVPA), her view on traditional philanthropy in Nigeria is what she says is referred to as charity, which she reveals is intrinsically linked with our cultures. “We need more ecosystem facilitators, builders and conveners like the African Venture Philanthropy Alliance to help define and set the tone by building local capacity and knowledge about philanthropy.” She said.
It is Toyin’s view that Philanthropy will take on a huge role with the power of partnerships between the public, private and social sectors.
