Many primary and secondary schools students, teachers, parents, guardians and judges gather to witness the performance of young talents. The final competition of the National Schools Dramatised Storytelling Competition 2013 had its grand final in Lagos June 5, 2013, at National Theatre, Lagos.
Drama presentation was done by the primary school students first; they were in their best performance as they wanted to take the first price home. Six schools performed in the primary school stage finals, while the secondary school was seven that qualified and performed at the final stage.
It was a day of fun, play, music, drama, laughter and lots of excitements for all in attendance. The pupils were judged based on different categories – best actor, best actress, best costume, best properties design, best stage design, best story line, and best theme song for both primary and secondary schools category.
There were also lots of side attractions for the students – question and answer of riddles, questions from what they talked about at the event. Also, gifts were given to winners as well as cash prizes. Participating schools were all given certificates and plaques.
Zeb Ejiro presented prizes to the winners of the various categories in the primary school category: best actor Eliza Obade from UNILAG Nursery and Primary School, best actress Ayomide Isiaka of Golden Bells Nursery and Primary School, best costume went to Liham Preparatory School, best props was given to Liham Preparatory School, best story line was Ijero Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and best stage design was awarded to Liham Preparatory School.
While Fred Abebe presented prizes to the winners of the various prizes for secondary school category: best actor Israel Abdul of Murtala Muhammed Airport School, best actress Soke Ohakwe of Brilliant Child College, best costume was awarded to Murtala Muhammed Airport School, best props was awarded to Marywood Girls College, best set design was awarded to Grandmates Secondary School.
The final and overall general results for primary school were; third position went to UNILAG Women Society School, second position Ijero Baptist Church Nursery and Primary School, while the first position went to Liham Preparatory School.
For the secondary school category – third position went to Starfield College, second position was Marywood Girls College, and first position to Brilliant Child.
The first positions were given a projector, screen, pointer and printer plus a trophy, second positions were given a laptop, printer and trophy, while the third places were given a desktop computer and a trophy.
This initiative of National Troupe of Nigeria in collaboration with Beeta Universal Arts Foundation used the competition as a means to promote our culture and encourage children to be more involved in their nation’s building.
