South Korean smartphone giant, Samsung Electronics is hosting its Unpacked program earlier than usual in 2021 and is expected to launch its Galaxy S21 series and other gadgets at the event.
The Unpacked Event which usually holds in February, is coming earlier this year perhaps as a strategy to consolidate on its spectacular result in 2020. The smartphone conglomerate posted a 58 percent growth in profit in its third-quarter report from July to September compared to what it recorded the previous year.
It also regained the smartphone market lead from Huawei, shipping 80.4 million units for a 22.7 percent market share in that third quarter. Samsung had lost its position in the second quarter despite being one of the first companies to launch a 5G smartphone in the world.
Losing its lead, led Samsung to launch the Galaxy S20 FE, a cheaper model that started at $700 – or $300 less than the regular S20 series. Buoyed by the surge in demand for cheaper smartphones, the S20 FE caught up with consumers and led Samsung back to its position.

Huawei is currently facing problems with the US government and other regulators in Europe and Samsung may have factored that into its plans, hence the hosting of the Unpacked event to enable it to kickstart sales as early as possible.
The company said on Friday 1 January 2021 that its operating profit for the fourth quarter likely grew by 26 percent from a year ago to 6 trillion Korean won ($8.22 billion), it is therefore likely Samsung plans to maintain its top spot in the smartphone market in 2021.
What to expect from Samsung Galaxy S21
The Samsung Galaxy S21 is the next flagship of smartphones the company plans to unveil at the Unpacked event, Earlier in the year, Samsung released a teaser hyping the camera capabilities of the series.

A 4000 mAh battery will power the 6.2-inch Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21 Plus will come with a 4,800 mAh battery. On the 6.2-inch model will be the Always-On Display (AOD) with Gorilla glass protection. It will also offer a 120 Hz refresh rate, 1300 nits brightness, and 421 ppi pixel density.
