Nigeria’s fashion industry is experiencing significant growth, contributing approximately $6.1 billion to the nation’s GDP as of 2024. This surge is said to be driven by a growing appetite for quality and exclusivity in fashion.
The sector’s expansion is further fueled by the influx of international brands and a notable rise in local Nigerian luxury fashion designers. Consumers are increasingly seeking quality, craftsmanship, premium materials, and attention to detail over mere brand recognition.
“Nigerians have a discerning eye for fashion,” said John Onyeguzoro, CEO of SmartMark Limited. “They seek not just style, but also quality and authenticity.”

Onyeguzoro made this statement during the opening of Dune London, a luxury fashion brand, in Lagos recently. The store’s launch is part of a broader effort to make high-quality, stylish fashion more accessible and to meet the growing demands of the Nigerian market. The new Lagos location provides Nigerians with the opportunity to embrace global fashion trends.
As the local franchisee for Dune London, Onyeguzoro stressed the importance of the new store. “While social status and the desire to wear high-end labels remain significant, there is an increasing awareness around authenticity and value, qualities that define this brand,” he explained. “Consumers are becoming more discerning, seeking brands that offer genuine quality and designers who prioritise artistry and ethical production.”
Onyeguzoro also emphasised Dune London’s long-standing global presence. “Dune has been a staple in the fashion industry for 133 years, and our partnership is built on shared values of quality and consistency,” he said. “At SmartMark, we believe fashion should be accessible. That’s why Dune’s products are affordable, enabling aspirational customers to own premium items without breaking the bank.”
“The growth of Nigerian fashion is undeniable,” said Denrele Edun, an actor and fashion influencer who was also at the event. “We have reached a point where people are not just following trends but are making bold, creative statements. Fashion is becoming an expression of culture and identity, not just a symbol of wealth.”

Potential Collaborations and Future Outlook
Onyeguzoro discussed the global nature of the fashion industry, highlighting the potential for collaboration between Dune London and local Nigerian designers. “Fashion is a global phenomenon,” he noted. “What resonates in the UK often resonates here in Nigeria, and I believe we could see collaborations between Dune London and Nigerian designers in the future. It’s all about embracing diverse influences and creating something beautiful together.”
As Dune London’s footprint continues to grow in Nigeria, the new store in Lagos stands as evidence of the brand’s commitment to offering quality, stylish footwear and accessories at accessible prices. The store promises to be a destination for fashion-forward Nigerians eager to elevate their style with global, yet affordable luxury.
