Ebunoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe, the first female new Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo, has pledged to steer the institution into a new phase of academic excellence and institutional reforms towards producing more medical doctors and other health workers to make up for the drain in the medical sector occasioned by japa syndrome.
Adejuyigbe, a professor of Paediatrics, made the commitment during a press briefing after she assumed office on Friday.
While outlining her vision, she said her administration would be defined by responsible leadership, collaboration, and open engagement with all stakeholders.
Adejuyigbe who admitted that there is a shortage of medical personnel in the country’s health institutions, said the country needs more medical personnel.
According to her, the university was designed to produce medical personnel, being the first specialized medical university in the country.
She stated that the university has accredited courses in various disciplines that touch the health of individuals and would continue to produce effective health workers who will be well grounded in their various disciplines.
The professor of Paediatrics noted that strengthening academic standards and improving staff and student welfare will be among her top priorities.
The Vice Chancellor, therefore, appealed for the support of the university’s management, staff, and students to achieve the shared vision of positioning UNIMED as a globally competitive institution.
