As the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration under the leadership of Muhammadu Buhari mark its one year in office, the Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello has vowed that his administration will recover the N2 billion youth enterprise fund the previous administration collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and basically distributed among political appointees and other favoured individuals.
Governor Bello stated this at Highland Government House, Lokoja, while delivering a speech to the people of Kogi State during the commemoration of Democracy Day on Sunday.
He also disclosed that in most cases, they used fictitious beneficiaries, adding that this money was a loan meant to stimulate commerce among the youth.
He also said his administration had also made concrete efforts to build rapport with other arms of government, while saying the misunderstanding among members of Kogi State House of Assembly was a family affair, which they were giving the honour members and the court the full cooperation to resolve in a lawful manner.
He said: “Let it be known that our hands are too full of executive functions to dabble or interfere with the legislature. We are optimistic that we will soon have a united and virile house standing side by side with us and the judiciary, and working for the overall benefit of the state and people.”
The governor also stated that the president had been in office for one year, but his administration was exactly four months and two day, adding that there was no denying the fact that the APC came to power at probably the worst time, socio-economically speaking.
With steep slide in the global prices of crude oil, which is the mainstay of our economy, governance has become more challenging than usual, he said, saying, “It is indeed a wonder that Mr President and his team have been able to stave off a full-blown recession, given the circumstances.
