It was a night to celebrate dreams when women from all walks of life, so gorgeously and beautifully dressed in their Vlisco colourful fabrics gather to celebrate African women who have the courage to turn their dreams into reality, despite the challenges they face in their daily lives.
In conjunction with the theme of this year’s Vlisco Women’s Month, ‘Live the Dream,’ audience could see that the female performers were indeed living their dreams by the way they performed on stage, as many performed exceptionally, taking the roles that men would normally take at events.
The stage was set as female musicians – keyboardist, drummers, actors, dancers and even comedian – were at their best, making the night a memorable one for many present.
The highpoint for many was when Dotun Akande, the founder and proprietress of Patrick Speech and Language Centre, was announced the winner of Vlisco Women’s Month award.
Akande, who happens to be the owner of Language Centre, which is the first such centre in Nigeria, set up to help individuals with autism also started an innovative strategy that helps children with autism to develop their talents, while providing support to their families.
Her joy knew no bounds as she appreciated Vlisco for seeing the potentials in her and celebrating her efforts, adding that with this platform, she promises to make more impact in her society.
Adaeze Alilonu, channel activator manager, Vlisco, said: “Vlisco Women’s month ‘Live the Dream’ is about inspiring dreams and one woman’s achievement often inspires another woman’s dream. Many women find great inspirations by watching other women overcome their challenges and live their dreams.”
According to her, “tonight, we have three beautiful nominees whose stories inspire us all. These three stories show the women are dedicated to their dreams, are living it and excelling at them.”
She said as part of supporting dreams also, Vlisco was offering a fashion dream fund to creative female fashion professionals to encourage them to unleash their full potentials.
“If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not dreaming less but to dream more and dream all the time. We therefore acknowledge this month and Vlisco Women’s Month. It is a well known saying that if you educate a man, you educate an individual but when you educate a woman, you educate an entire nation,” Alilonu said.
Woman are very essential in our daily lives and they form a vital part of society and Vlisco is therefore happy to be inspired by women to design innovative colourful designs by making them unique, beautiful and outstanding always, she further explained.
Speaking on the brand, she sai Vlisco was the only brand creating authentic Dutch wax and was recognised for its unique desiring colours and inspiring fashion statement.
