A violent clash between security operatives and members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, at Banex Junction, Wuse 2, Abuja, resulting in the arrest of 295 people.
Tragically, 11 individuals were confirmed dead, while 32 others sustained serious injuries during the incident.
According to a report by Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism analyst, the clash occurred around 2:20 p.m. when IMN members, reportedly armed with firearms, cutlasses, catapults, sticks, stones, and homemade petrol bombs, allegedly launched an attack on military personnel stationed at the Banex area along Aminu Kano Crescent.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as the protesters engaged the security operatives in a violent confrontation.
It was learnt that the situation escalated when the protesters reportedly opened fire and hurled projectiles at the operatives.
“In the ensuing melee, three military personnel sustained severe injuries and were quickly taken to the National Hospital.

“Sadly, one of the injured officers was later pronounced dead by medical personnel, while the other two are currently receiving treatment”, the report said.
A senior security officer disclosed to Makama that the operatives were compelled to use what was described as “minimal force” to disperse the protesters.
“We were able to arrest 19 suspects at the scene, while others fled in different directions,” the officer said.
Following the clash, a coordinated joint security operation was launched across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), resulting in the arrest of 295 individuals linked to the incident.
The injured suspects and the bodies of the deceased were transported to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for medical attention and post-mortem examinations.
In response to public concern, authorities have moved swiftly to restore calm in the affected area.
Security has been tightened around key locations, including detention facilities, to prevent any resurgence of violence.
It was also learnt that surveillance and confidence-building patrols are ongoing to reassure residents of their safety.
Meanwhile, residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives as investigations continue.
