The third conciliatory meeting between Federal Government and the leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced.
The, in almost one month, is ongoing in Abuja with key stakeholders from both the government side and the Union present.
Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment who chaired the tripartite meeting, explained that several meetings had been held by the government side to resolve the two contentious issues ahead of the slated meeting with striking Union.
The two contentious issues are: the earned allowance for the Universities lecturers and the revitalization fund of Nigeria Universities.
In his remarks, Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education expressed optimism that the two parties will come to a compromise for the schools to be reopened to students.
On his part, Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President assured that the Union will reconvene its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting for further actions, if all the contentious issues are resolved amicably.
Meanwhile, Federal Government is yet to make public statement on the threat notice issued by the Non Academic Staff Unions (NASU); Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) of Universities, to withdraw their services as from Monday, 11th September, 2017.
