…seeks cooperation with security agencies
Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State and senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, has appealed to residents of the area to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies in the ongoing efforts to rid the country of terrorists, assuring innocent citizens of adequate protection.
Tambuwal, reacting to the Christmas Day United States airstrikes against terrorists in parts of the state, including Jibo where the strike reportedly occurred on Thursday night, said he was actively engaging relevant security authorities to obtain full details of the incident and ensure that all necessary safeguards were in place to protect innocent lives.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Friday, the senator called on community leaders, traditional institutions, and residents to continue working closely with security agencies by sharing credible information and resisting misinformation that could heighten fear, tension, or undermine peace.
According to him, “I have noted reports concerning an airstrike carried out as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts through cooperation between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United States.
“I urge our communities to remain calm and law-abiding as relevant authorities clarify the circumstances surrounding the operation.”
Tambuwal further assured the people of Sokoto South that he would continue to engage relevant security authorities to obtain full details of the incident and ensure that all necessary safeguards were upheld.
“It is important to reassure the public that counterterrorism operations are targeted at criminal and terrorist elements who threaten our collective safety, and not at innocent civilians who are themselves victims of insecurity.
“The protection of civilian lives remains paramount and central to all legitimate security operations,” he said.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain also commended the courage and professionalism of the military and other security forces, noting that they continue to work tirelessly, often in collaboration with international partners, to confront terrorism and banditry under extremely challenging conditions.
He said their sacrifice and commitment to restoring peace and stability deserved the full support and cooperation of the public.
“Together, through unity, vigilance, and support for lawful security efforts, we will overcome the forces of terror and secure lasting peace for Sokoto State and Nigeria at large,” Tambuwal added.
