UEFA has sanctioned Romanian side FCSB and Greek club AEK Athens following offensive conduct by their fans during last week’s European qualifying playoffs.
FCSB, formerly known as Steaua Bucharest, were charged with “racist and/or discriminatory behaviour” over chants directed at Aberdeen players during their Europa League playoff clash.
UEFA fined the club €30,000 ($35,000) and ordered several sections of the National Arena in Bucharest to be closed for their October 2 home game against Young Boys.
Meanwhile, AEK Athens were punished after fans displayed an obscene banner targeting Anderlecht supporters in a Conference League playoff, while also lighting fireworks and invading the pitch.
The Greek club was fined €56,000 ($65,000), and UEFA ordered the closure of much of one end of their stadium for the October 23 fixture against Aberdeen.
