The United States government has announced a review of more than 55 million foreign nationals holding valid U.S. visas to determine if any may have violated the conditions of their entry or become ineligible to remain in the country.
According to the Associated Press (AP News), the U.S. State Department confirmed that this review is part of a “continuous vetting” process, which applies not only to visa holders but also to tourists currently visiting the country.
It was learnt that the measure aims to ensure that individuals seeking entry into the United States comply with immigration laws and national security requirements.
“Continuous vetting allows us to review all available information, including law enforcement or immigration records, as well as any other information that comes to light after visa issuance, indicating potential ineligibility,” the State Department said in a statement.
The department emphasized that if a visa holder is found to be ineligible based on this review, their visa will be revoked.
It further added that if the individual is already in the United States, they may face deportation proceedings.
