Candy brand TomTom launched its highly anticipated 2025 TomTom Breathe Through It (BTI) Verse Challenge with an electrifying Barz on Wheelz Yaba Showdown.
The Railway Recreation Centre in Ebute Meta was the vibrant backdrop for this mobile talent hunt, where music, fierce competition, and youthful energy took centre stage.
Mariam Abdullahi, Brand Manager, Gum and Candy at Cadbury West Africa, emphasised the campaign’s purpose: “At TomTom, our passion lies in empowering young Nigerians to overcome pressure and discover their confident voices.
The BTI Verse Challenge transcends a mere music contest; it’s a cultural movement designed to empower, uplift, and inspire. The energy we witnessed in Yaba marked the powerful beginning of this journey.”
Over 30 talented contestants showcased their lyrical prowess and performance skills, highlighting the raw talent present at the grassroots level. The intense competition was judged by a panel of entertainment heavyweights: the Afro-street sensation Small Doctor, rap star Candy Bleakz, and Olatunde Danisa, Creative Director of Cashiff House of Ideas. DJ 4kerty kept the crowd energised with non-stop beats throughout the event.
After an exhilarating battle of bars, Mohammed Salami, known as Lam Young, emerged as the victor. His exceptional flow, originality, and ability to connect with the audience secured his well-deserved win.
Visibly elated upon receiving his award, Lam Young shared, “This is a dream come true. I’ve been waiting for an opportunity like this to showcase my talent to the world. I am incredibly grateful to TomTom for bringing this platform directly to our community. Today, I not only won a prize but also found my voice amongst my peers.”
Lam Young’s prize package includes a N1 million cash reward, a six-month supply of TomTom candy, exclusive branded merchandise, and a coveted spot in the TomTom Breathe Academy. This development hub is designed to elevate emerging artists through mentorship, studio sessions, branding support, and increased visibility.
