President Bola Tinubu on Thursday directed Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle to relocate to Kebbi state following the abduction of dozens of schoolgirls earlier in the week.
Armed bandits attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in the Maga community on Monday, killing a school staff member and injuring a security guard before abducting 25 students. Two of the girls escaped on Tuesday as security agencies intensified search operations.

Tinubu’s office said Matawalle was ordered to move to Kebbi “to monitor security efforts to secure the release of the abducted students,” citing his previous experience handling banditry and mass kidnappings as governor of neighbouring Zamfara state. He is expected to arrive in the state on Friday.
The president also postponed planned trips to South Africa and Angola as the government responds to the Kebbi attack and a separate assault on a church in Kwara state.
Gunmen stormed a Christ Apostolic Church branch in the border town of Eruku on Wednesday, ransacking the building. Police said three people, including a vigilante, were injured, but did not confirm whether worshippers were abducted or killed.
