The Lake of Stars Festival is one of the most spectacular music festivals hosted in Africa. Malawi is the host country and thousands of attendees convene each year to enjoy three days of an eclectic mix of music and arts. Now in its eleventh year, The Lake of Stars kicks off on the 30th of September and ends on the 2nd of October, 2016. There is no better way to make an entrance into the last quarter of the year than with a weekend of beautiful music, lively conversations, and Malawi hospitality. Here are five more reasons to follow the action.
The Venue is a Beautiful Sandy Beach
Chintheche Inn, home to The Lake of Stars sits atop the white sands and is bordered by the calming waters of the Northern Lakeshore. See a sunrise from your bed each morning and enjoy the best of both worlds as you camp with fellow festival goers in Malawi.
Freshlyground and Timo Maas Will Be There
Doo Be Doo crooners and performers, Freshlyground will be among the headline acts. This diverse Afro-fusion band made their mark with the 2010 World Cup theme song, Waka, Waka alongside Shakira. Also, joining them on The Lake of Stars stage is German electronic music DJ and producer, Timo Maas. Having worked with artists such as Moby, Madonna, and Kelis, festival goers will have a great time on the dancefloor.
You Can Have Ten Trees Planted in Your Name
Root to Fruit is the organization providing the opportunity for attendees to travel green. With a donation of 20 dollars, an attendee flying to Malawi from Europe can offset the approximately two tonnes of carbon emissions used during the flight. Root to Fruit has pledged to plant 10 trees in the donor’s behalf, monitor the seedlings for ten years as they mature to full-fledged trees, and provide the GPS coordinates, so you can know where exactly you made your green thumbprint on earth.
Discover the wonders of Chibuku
You have heard about it, but now you can drink it. Enjoy Malawi’s home grown beer, Chibuku sourced from sorghum and maize and fermented to an unrivalled taste. Except of course to its South African counterpart, Umqombothi. So, the next time you hear Chibuku Shake Shake, you will know exactly what is being spoken of. For lovers of imported beer, Carlsberg is the popular brand in Malawi.
Tantalize Your Taste Buds with Authentic Malawian Cuisine
It is food time!!! What better way to experience Malawi than to lift a morsel of Nsima dipped in your pick of peanut or pumpkin leaves sauce, and lift it to your mouth? Savor the taste and allow your tummy to do its happy dance as you eat this staple served in majority of Malawi households.
The 2016 Lake of Stars Festival promises to be all colors of fun. Do not miss out on the most exciting event happening in the “Warm Heart of Africa”, Malawi this month.
