Tech Crunch, an online publisher of technology based in San Francisco, said it is heading to Lagos, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana to meet with startups from 17 to 20 April, 2018 in preparation for Startup Battlefield Africa which will hold at Disrupt in San Francisco from 5 to 7.
In a post on its website, TechCrunch explained that participants in the Startup Battlefield will compete for a grand prize of $100,000 and the Disrupt Cup. Participating startups will also be able to gain exposure and connections throughout the event.
“In Startup Battlefield, your startup will pitch on-stage at Disrupt in front of judges who represent the top Venture Capitalists and several thousand people in a live audience. The pitches are also livestreamed on TechCrunch and a writer will cover your company and release a post during the event,” the company noted.
Samantha Stein, Startup Battlefield director, will be in Lagos to meet with founders, investors, angels investors and established entrepreneurs across the tech ecosystem.
During the meetup, startups can learn more about the event and how to apply for Battlefield with a solid application whereas investors will learn how to refer companies in their portfolio.
“The Startup Battlefield alumni community comprises almost 750 companies that have raised over $8 billion, and produced 105 successful exits and IPOs,” TechCrunch added.
Apart from free passes to Disrupt, startups that make it to the event also get a booth in designated section of Startup Alley for Startup Battelfield companies, plus invites to exclusive Disrupt dinner, after parties, and Startup Battlefield swag.
Eligible startups include early stage companies in launch stage that reside in eligible countries and have a fully working product or a beta stage. The eligible startups are also those that have received limited press or publicity to date and have no known intellectual property conflicts.
