Taraba: Slain Catholic priest buried amidst tears
Tears flow on Tuesday at the our Lady Queen of peace catholic cathedral Jalingo the Taraba state capital, as people came from all works of life to witness the burial of late Rev. Father David Tanko.
Father Tanko who was killed and burnt in Tostee village Takum area council of Taraba state on 28 Agust, 2019 by suspected armed militia was layed to mother earth at the catholic priests cemetery, our Lady Queen of peace cathedral Jalingo, Jalingo diocese.
In a funeral sermon, the Catholic bishop of Jalingo diocese Charles Hamawa, said the death of Father David should signal the end of the perennial crisis between the Tivs/Jukuns.
The bishop who read his sermon from a prepared text and drown from the book of Matthew admonished christians to learn how to forgive one another says the church is praying for the conversion of those who killed Father Tanko.
He called for the intervention of all to find lasting solution to the perennial crisis between the Tivs/ Jukuns as well as other parts of the country.
His murder which came barely 24 hours after some youths raided villages in the State killing two people is the latest in a string of killings since the escalation on April 1, 2019 of a perennial conflict between the Tivs and Jukuns in Taraba State that dates as far back as 1991. The conflict has consumed more than a hundred of 100 people in the past five months, with Fr. Tanko as the most prominent.
